DR. SHERYL ABSHIRE

Dr. Sheryl R. Abshire is a distinguished educator and visionary leader with an impactful career at the intersection of education and technology. Holding a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Leadership, she has served as a teacher, librarian, principal, university assistant professor, and CTO for the awarding-winning Calcasieu Parish Public Schools. Her leadership has been instrumental in integrating technology into education, and she played a pivotal role in establishing the ISTE National Education Technology Standards and contributing to the U. S. DOE National Educational Technology Plan.
Abshire is an ISTE Certified Educator and a Certified Cybersecurity Rubric Evaluator (CCRE). She has held significant positions, including serving as CoSN Chair of the Board from 2005–2009, President of the Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators (LACUE), and Founder and Chair of CoSN’s Louisiana Chief Technology Officers’ Association (LA-CTO).
Additionally, she was appointed to the USAC Board by the FCC to represent schools and libraries on E-Rate matters. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the CoSN Seymore Papert Lifetime Achievement Award, ISTE Making It Happen Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Learning Counsel. Additionally, she was the first teacher inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame and honored by President Bill Clinton and Secretary of Education Richard Riley at the White House.
Her influence extends globally through her presentations at major conferences and leadership on various boards. Abshire has also been acknowledged as one of the Top 100 EdTech Influencers by EdTech Digest. She is a prolific author, with extensive publications on grant writing, educational technology, personalized learning, cybersecurity, IT integration, and issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Abshire continues to be a fierce advocate for education, frequently testifying before
Congress and the FCC; and serving on the CoSN Policy Committee, the ISTE Policy Committee, the CoSN Driving K–12 Innovation Board, and as a facilitator for the CoSN Early Career K–12 CTO Academy.
